My Own Web Portal is designed as a jumping off point to some of the content and
websites I've produced and maintain. You can get in touch with me using lee @ this domain.
My Sites
As Screen Near You
A little film blog I built so I can share my views on film and the
movie business on a dedicated site rather than including them in my
normal blog.
Eight-Eight Template (88Template)
As a web designer, I always had
something of a disdain for web templates. They were something for
people who wanted their web host to provide an easy, free solution so
they could get a look-a-like site up and running and share pics of
their new baby with the world. They were just low quality ripoffs of a
real web site.
More recently I’ve seen some that made me think twice. They were high quality, looked great and I would happily have used them for any of my sites. So I started looking into it and now I’m a convert. Oh I won’t be giving up designing, but there are some tasks templates are just eminently more suitable for, not mention certain clients.
Eight-eight template is my site dedicated to selling templates are related services.
Go Set Jetting
People visiting places because they were used in a film or TV show has been a growing phenomenon, with the likes of the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings films being responsible for huge amounts of tourism. Go Set Jetting was setup to try and create a list of locations for movies.
List Books
Being a voracious reader and an
all-around book lover, I noticed that I was accumlating a significant
number of books that I was unlikely to read again. Finally, I decided I
had to get rid of some. Being a net junkie I turned to the online
community, but couldn’t find a site where I could easily list and sell
my books in an environment where I wasn’t either a) forced to charge
high prices to cover the costs imposed by the provider of the service,
or b) I was unhappy with the way it was being done, so, being a web
designer/developer, with a spare domain name and webspace, I built my
own.
That resulted in List Stuff, my previous site. But that only allowed me to list my books. If I needed somewhere to sell my books, so would other people, I reasoned. So I set to work building a site that would allow anyone to sell their second-hand or used books without having to pay any commission or any fee to list them. It also meant that anyone looking for a bargain could try and find old books are great prices.
List Stuff
The precursor to List Books, I have deactivated selling on it.
Potter's Place
I am a big Harry Potter fan and have written the occasional fan
fiction. Instead of letting them gather dust on my HDD, I threw
together a site so that I could put them online and share them with
other Potter fans.
T-Shirt Imp
T-shirt Imp is an online store
featuring t-shirts of my own design. I was fed up with the awful range
in stores, most if which seemed to want to promote their brand more
than they cared about design, so I decided to make some of my own for
like-minded people.
No Fear used to do excellent t-shirts, now they’ve pretty much gone the route of name-only tees, and the market seemed to lack original stuff, shirts with attitude. Hopefully that’s what t-shirt Imp brings to the online community, along with tons of humour and an acid wit.
The Digerati Peninsula
The peninsula is a personal site of
mine, where I ramble on about anything I like, I can try out various
techniques and styles, try and put the world to rights, provide links
to places I found interesting and put up a little of my writing, when I
get time to write that is.
It’s kind of a mish-mash of all sorts of things, but it’s fun to play with and vent my frustrations at the world. I doubt if anyone other than me will find it interesting, but it’s useful to help me develop my skills by adding functionality, and who knows, I may actually write something worth reading one day.
Viewfinder Design
Viewfinder Design is a site I setup to
offer free web resources. Over the years I’ve built or customised a
range of scripts for my various sites and I thought I’d offer that
knowledge back to the web community, helping others in the same way I
was helped.
The site does have a WordPress slant, as my publishing system of choice, but offers templates, tips, documentation and downloads including a contact form script, a recommend to a friend script and a mailing list manager.
